gratuitous, unfiltered 2000s edge
the original bloodrayne almost felt like a tonal mismatch. a mallgoth running around the nazi-clad halls of what essentially feels like a glorified n64 game? eh. i enjoyed it, but kinda lamented that terminal reality didn't go as far with the emo shit as they could've
now this on the other hand... THIS is my shit. we've traded the 1930s for the aughts. full stop. why are all the enemies marilyn manson rejects? why is there a tony hawk-style rail grinding feature? and why the fuck does rayne's harpoon-throw completely defy the laws of physics?
(because it's cool)
there's mechanical improvements across the board as well. rayne actually gets a moveset this time (thank fucking god), power progression's a hell of a lot tighter and level design as a whole is infinitely less aimless; no more running around looking for dudes to kill or where the fuck to go
bloodrayne's always been a bit of a black sheep for action games, but if you've got a soft spot for the era of crazy towns, hot topics and coal chambers (as i do) then you're doing yourself a disservice by not giving this a shot
